Jobless Claims Steady, Low And Consistent
Jobless claims are steady and low and remain consistent with strong
demand for labor. Initial claims came in at 219,000 in the September 28
week with the 4-week average unchanged at a very favorable 212,500.
Continuing claims in lagging data for the September 21 fell 5,000 with
this 4-week average down 5,750 to a favorable 1.662 million. The
unemployment rate for insured workers held at 1.1 percent for a second
straight week. Whether this report or employment data from Challenger,
ADP, or the Conference Board's consumer confidence report, indications
are consistent and point to a solid monthly employment report for
tomorrow.
