The
ECI for August was at an 11-month low with a reading of minus 13, down a
point from minus 12 in July. The monthly average reflects the more
positive readings from earlier in August as well as the more negative
readings later in the month, particularly those in the last week.
The Gallup Economic Confidence Index (ECI) is a broad indicator of
Americans' confidence in national economic conditions, comparable to the
Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index and the Thomson
Reuters/University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index.
