Chain Store Sales Weak In July

Amid what is described as consumer apathy, July was a weak month for chain stores which are reporting lower rates of year-on-year sales growth compared to June. Sales were so soft that some chains are scaling back their sales and earnings forecasts. The results unfortunately point to a back-to-back decline for next week's ex-auto ex-gas reading of the July retail sales report.
