Prior promotions stole sales from the November 29 week, according to
ICSC-Goldman's same-store sales index which fell 1.8 percent. Despite
the week-to-week decline, the year-on-year rate actually rose 1.1
percentage points to plus 2.8 percent. The report in fact is upbeat,
saying consumers are considerably behind in their shopping which points
to strength for December sales

Redbook reports strength in the Black Friday shopping week with its
year-on-year same-store sales rate rising 6 tenths to plus 4.8 percent.
The report cites deep discounts as a plus for sales including online
deals with free shipping. Looking to December, Redbook points to a late
Hanukkah as a plus for sales as well as lower gas prices.
