Hiring in the United States slowed in August as the economy created just 142,000 jobs, marking the smallest gain since December.
The
deceleration in hiring last month ended a six-month streak in which the
U.S. added at least 200,000 jobs a month, the best stretch of job
creation since 2006. The number of jobs created also fell well short of
Wall Street’s forecast calling for a 228,000 gain.
