Small-business owners may want to double-check their tax returns next year. A majority of small businesses run by sole proprietors may have underreported expenses that would have reduced their taxes this past year, a new poll suggests. Almost three years after it began, the U.S. recovery may strengthen as autos and housing begin to reemerge as mainstays of growth. Home prices dropped in February in most major U.S. cities for a sixth straight month, a sign that modest sales gains haven't been enough to boost prices. American consumers were just as leery about the economy in April as they were in March, but at least their confidence didn't drop, according to a widely-watched survey released Tuesday.
