Small Business News You Can Use (4/21)

Americans filed fewer claims for unemployment benefits in the latest week, but the dip was less than expected and dimmed hopes that the labor market was back on track to healthier conditions. Existing home sales fell to 4.48 million, a drop of 2.6 percent from February. February numbers were revised slightly higher to 4.60 million, but that still doesn't make up for such a major miss. More than one-third (35 percent) of small business owners believe the economy is recovering, but they are proceeding cautiously and managing their resources more closely by tempering plans for growth, hiring modestly and getting more out of their employees. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) shot back at the White House’s threat to veto his small-business tax-cut bill, accusing the administration of wanting to “micro-manage” the money held by small businesses.
