Consumer Comfort Index Swings Higher

Weekly data are always subject to volatility which is the case for the October 23 edition of the consumer comfort index which, after trending for more than a month near the 42 level, is up an outsized 2.6 points to 43.9. Two other readings on the consumer's mood, the consumer confidence and consumer sentiment indexes, have both been moving lower but remain at still solid levels.
