Goods and services trade balance widens to $73.3B in August

  • August International Trade in Goods and Services: -$73.3B vs. -$70.7B consensus and -$70.3B (revised from -$70.1B).
  • August exports were $213.7B, $1.0B more than July exports.
  • August imports were $287.0B, $4.0B more than July imports.
  • The wider deficit reflects an increase in the goods deficit of $1.6B to $89.4B and a decrease in the services surplus of $1.4B to $16.2B.
  • The average goods and services deficit increased $1.6B to $72.3B for the three months ending in August.
  • Previously (Sept. 28), the Advance International Trade in Goods showed a $87.6B deficit as imports increased more than exports.
