April ISM non-manufacturing index eases off of March's all-time high

  • April ISM Non-Manufacturing Index: 62.7 vs. 64.2 consensus, 63.7 prior.
  • Economic activity in the services sector increased for the 11th month in a row and is 1 percentage point lower than March's all-time high of 63.7%.
  • Business activity 62.7 vs. 69.4 prior.
  • Employment: 58.8 vs. 57.2
  • New order: 63.7 vs. 67.2
  • Prices 76.8 vs. 74.0
  • "There was slowing growth in the services sector in April; however, the rate of expansion is still strong. Respondents’ comments indicate that pent-up demand is continuing," said Anthony Nieves, chair of the Institute for Supply Management Services Business Survey Committee.
  • Production capacity constraints, material shortages, weather and challenges in logistics and human resources are affecting deliveries, which led to a reduction of inventories, Nieves added.
