November Motor Vehicle Sales Below October

With roughly half of November's total in, vehicle sales are running noticeably below October. Vehicle sales spiked in September on hurricane-replacement demand then eased but still came in very strong in October. Today's early results, however, point to a return to more moderate sales levels. Though the November retail sales report will be dominated by holiday sales, vehicle sales look to hold down the total.

Recent History Of This Indicator:
Vehicle sales have been on fire following the heavy hurricane season and the need to replace vehicles. But forecasters see this effect easing though the November consensus for total unit sales is still strong at a 17.6 million annualized rate. Domestic-made vehicles are expected to slow to a 13.7 million rate from 14.2 million in October.
