Consumer Comfort Index Increases Slightly

September was a tough month for the consumer comfort index which drifted in the 41 range, well down from the prior trend at 44. But the early indication for October is favorable with the index up 7 tenths to 42.1 in data for the October 9 week. Unlike the comfort index, the consumer sentiment index showed some lift in September. The sentiment for early October will be posted tomorrow.
