Chain Store Sales Hold Solid In May

Consumer spending, based on this morning's chain-store sales reports, held solid in May. Chain stores are reporting slightly less strength in year-on-year sales than in April but not by very much. And April's retail sales data proved very solid. Today's reports point to a 3rd straight gain for the government's ex-auto ex-gas reading which rose a very solid 0.6 percent in April.
