Consumer Confidence Moves Lower

Consumer confidence readings have been edging lower but have held at still solid levels so far this year. That is until today's consumer comfort index for the May 1 week which broke lower to 42.0, well under the 43 trend of the last couple of months and the 44 trend at the beginning of the year. Weakness in consumer confidence readings typically reflect expectations for weakness in income and job prospects.
