Consumer Comfort Index Moves Lower
Most consumer confidence measures have been holding at respectable
levels but the consumer comfort index did move noticeably lower in the
March 27 week, down 8 tenths from the prior week to 42.8. This index had
been trending near the 44 level most of this year. Though yesterday's
consumer confidence report did show gains, today's dip in the comfort
index could be signaling a more immediate move lower for confidence.
Watch whether the dip is confirmed or not in tomorrow's consumer
sentiment report.
