Same Store Retail Sales Stronger On Clearance Sales
Clearance sales drew a strong response in the January 2 week, driving up
Redbook's same-store sales index to a year-on-year 2.9 percent, a
growth rate that is quite strong for this reading. Redbook describes
traffic in the week as relatively high. Today's report should give a
lift to estimates for December retail sales.
