Same Store Retail Sales Down On Clearance And Discounting
Reflecting promotional clearances and price discounting, dollar sales at
the nation's retailers ratcheted down to plus 1.7 percent from 2.9
percent in the January 9 week, according to Redbook's same-store
year-on-year sales tally. Most retailers, the report says, are planning
to bring in spring merchandise in the middle of the month. It expects
those with large stocks of unsold winter goods to cut profit margins.
