Consumer Comfort Index Edges Lower
Losses in the stock market aren't yet depressing the consumer. The
consumer comfort index did edge 4 tenths lower to 44.0 in the January 17
week but the dip follows a prior gain. Compared to the beginning of the
year when volatility began to hit the markets, the index is down only 2
tenths. Similar results were posted in last Friday's consumer sentiment
report.
