Same-Store Retail Sales Exceptionally Strong

August looks to have been a very strong month for retail sales based on Redbook's same-store sales sample. Year-on-year growth of 6.5 percent for the August 31 week is exceptionally strong and follows exceptional growth of 5.7 percent in the prior week. This report has been signaling another strong quarter for consumer spending which in the second quarter dominated US growth statistics.
