Chain store sales in the U.S. fell 2.8% Y/Y for the week ended August 15, according to the latest read from Johnson Redbook.
Month-to-date chain store sales are down 3.1% Y/Y.
The week covered some back-to-school spending, which has been disrupted this year due to the pandemic.
The retail sales report for July showed pockets of strength and a bifurcated trend.
